Biography

Wayne Schiess teaches legal writing, legal drafting, and plain English at the University of Texas School of Law. He has written dozens of articles and six books on practical legal writing skills. Schiess graduated from Cornell Law School and practiced law for several years at the Dallas office of Baker Botts before joining the Texas Law faculty in 1992. He directed the legal writing program from 2004 to 2016 and has been heavily involved in teaching analytical and persuasive legal writing. Schiess has been recognized with several awards, including being selected as Texas Law's Legal Writing Teacher of the Year multiple times. His blog, LEGIBLE, was named an ABA Journal Blawg 100 in 2007, and he wrote a monthly column for the Austin Lawyer magazine. Schiess is deeply committed to the clarity of legal writing and aims to enhance the skills of his students through innovative teaching methods and real-world applications.
