Biography

Wei Cai is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. He holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). His research focuses on predicting mechanical strength in materials through simulations and theory, examining defects within microstructures across atomic, mesoscopic, and continuum scales. Professor Cai is also involved in developing new atomistic simulation techniques for long time-scale processes, including crystal growth and self-assembly, as well as studying the effects of magnetic fields in quantum simulations related to electronic structure and transport. He has been recognized with several awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2004, the NSF Career Award in 2006, and the ASME Hughes Young Investigator Award in 2013. He serves on the editorial board for various journals and actively participates in conferences.
