Dr. Wei Huang

Biography

Wei Huang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford University. His research interests focus on Synthetic Biology, Single Cell Raman Biotechnology, and Microbial Evolution. His work involves developing Raman micro-spectroscopy to study microbes at the single cell level, enabling the manipulation and sorting of non-culturable microbes and investigation of cell-cell nanoparticle interactions and gene expression in individual cells. He is particularly interested in the application of biosensors and bioenergy in synthetic biology, along with advancements in Raman spectroscopy techniques such as Raman-activated cell sorting and single-cell genomics. With a strong background in the engineering sciences, Professor Huang is at the forefront of developing innovative solutions that intersect microbial research and engineering to address challenges in synthetic biology and biotechnology. Also, he actively contributes to mentoring students and advancing interdisciplinary collaborations within the university.
