Biography

Weibo Cai is a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor in the Department of Radiology, School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Nanjing University, China in 1995, and completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of California San Diego in 2004. After a post-doctoral research position at Stanford University from 2005 to 2008, he joined UW–Madison as part of the Biomedical Engineering Cluster Hire. Cai's work focuses on molecular imaging and nanobiotechnology, which has led to his recognition as a leading expert worldwide in the field of Molecular Imaging. He has authored over 410 peer-reviewed articles, edited three books, and has given more than 380 talks globally. His contributions to science have been recognized through numerous prestigious awards, including the European Association of Nuclear Medicine Springer Prize and the American Cancer Society Research Scholar award. He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Nanobiotechnology and the American Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, and is an active member of various scientific societies, contributing to committees within them. Over 150 of his trainees have received awards or post-doctoral fellowships, illustrating his commitment to mentoring the next generation of scientists.
