Weijing Lu received his academic training in classical literature and history from Fudan University in Shanghai, where he earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees. After moving to the United States in 1993, he completed his Ph.D. in history at the University of California, Davis in 2001. As a professor, he teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in Chinese and East Asian history. His primary research interests focus on Chinese women's and gender history, the history of Chinese family and marriage, as well as late imperial social and cultural history. Lu's book, 'True Word: Faithful Maiden Cult in Late Imperial China,' delves into the intellectual controversies and familial conflicts surrounding faithful maidens, exploring their beliefs, mentalities, and lived experiences. He has also guest-edited a special issue of the 'China Journal' on the history of sexuality in 2013 and is currently working on a book project investigating marriage and family relations in late imperial China through personal writings from men and women in the 17th to 19th centuries. His research has been supported by various fellowships, including those from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Council of Learned Societies.
