Biography

Dr. Weinong Chen is a Professor at the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1982 and 1985, respectively, and his Ph.D. in Aeronautics from the California Institute of Technology in 1995, with a minor in Materials Science. His research focuses on experimental solid mechanics, investigating the dynamic mechanical behavior of materials at high strain rates and fatigue behavior. Dr. Chen has established dynamic material characterization laboratories and has collaborated with various institutions including the Army Research Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories. He has published over forty journal articles, contributing significant advancements in understanding the mechanical response of soft biological tissues, ceramics, and polymers. Dr. Chen has received numerous honors including the Acorn Award from Purdue University and recognition as an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
