Biography

Weiping Tang is a Professor and the Director of the Medicinal Chemistry Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since joining the faculty in 2007, he has focused on various aspects of drug discovery, synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, and bioassay development. His research encompasses the design and synthesis of drug candidates, the development of cell-based biochemical assays to evaluate their pharmacological properties, and the study of cellular mechanisms of action of novel small molecules. His lab is particularly interested in creating small molecules that can selectively modulate protein stability related to epigenetic markers and developing enabling chemistry platforms to accelerate the generation of large small molecule libraries. Tang's work also includes significant contributions to glycoscience and the engineering of glycans for therapeutic applications. He has a robust academic background, receiving his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Stanford University and conducting postdoctoral research at Harvard University.
