Biography

Weitao Yang is the Philip Handler Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Duke University, where he is also associated with the Department of Physics. His research focuses on developing methods for quantum mechanical calculations of large systems, with applications in biological systems and nanostructures. His group has pioneered linear scaling methods for electronic structure calculations and quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) approaches for simulating chemical reactions and enzymes. Yang's work is recognized nationally and internationally, evidenced by his fellowships in the American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Physical Society.
