Weixian Pan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Film and Media at Queen's University. He holds a PhD in Film Moving Image Studies from Concordia University in Montreal. Prior to joining Queen's University, he was affiliated with NYU Shanghai as a faculty member in Interactive Media Arts. He has taught at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, where he also served as a coordinator and researcher in the Global Emergent Media Lab. His research interests focus on the politics of visuality, encompassing cinema, television, video, and new media/art forms, alongside critical media infrastructure and environmental media. Pan examines the textual, material, and socio-political dynamics of media, particularly in relation to China's experiences. Currently, he is working on a book project titled 'Frontier Vision: Geopolitics Seeing China’s Borderlands', which explores China’s geopolitical aspirations through the lens of hyper-mediated logic from the mid-twentieth century to the present. His work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals, including Television & New Media and the Journal of Environmental Media. Pan has also led curatorial projects and organizes interdisciplinary workshops involving scholars and artists.
