Weixing Chen received B.Eng. and M.Sc. degrees in physical metallurgy from Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, China, in 1984 and 1987, respectively, and a Ph.D. degree in physical metallurgy from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 1995. He has held positions including visiting fellow at the high temperature superalloys Institute Aerospace Research, NRC, Ottawa, Canada, and has worked at SINOPEC, Nanjing, China. Since 1999, he has been with the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta, where he has progressed from assistant professor to his current position of professor. His research interests encompass stress corrosion cracking, corrosion fatigue, mechanical behavior of pipeline steels, high temperature corrosion, development of advanced materials, and coatings resistant to high temperature degradation, as well as the synthesis and application of carbon-based materials for advanced energy storage and CO2 capture.
