Biography

Wen Chen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and the Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Southern California (USC). He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from Yale University in 2016. Before joining USC in 2025, he was an Associate Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Dr. Chen's research focuses on additive manufacturing (3D printing), architected materials, and physical mechanical metallurgy. He has served as the additive manufacturing symposium chair for the 2023 MRS Fall meeting and has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals including Nature and Science Advances. His current research interests involve understanding processing-structure-property relationships in advanced materials and the development of new additive manufacturing technologies.
