Wen Zhou’s research examines the interlinked politics of resource governance and rural development in the Global South, with a recent focus on the creation and use of forest concessions in Central Africa. Drawing on theories and methods from critical human geography, sociocultural anthropology, and political ecology, Zhou employs extensive ethnographic and archival research to investigate the constitution of state and corporate sovereignty in post-colonial contexts, as well as the transnational political economies surrounding resource conservation and extraction. This research aims to create new environmental values and subjectivities in the shadow of climate change and biodiversity crises. Prior to his academic career, Zhou worked in various environmental research institutes, international development organizations, and conservation non-profits across Indonesia, China, and Vietnam.
