Biography

Wendong Zhang is an associate professor at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, part of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. His research and extension program focuses on understanding the farmland market, Chinese agriculture, and the interplay between agriculture and the environment. Currently, he serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Soil and Water Conservation and the American Journal of Agricultural Economics from 2020 to 2023. Additionally, he is a faculty affiliate with the Cornell Center for China Economic Research and a faculty fellow at the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability. He is also recognized as a fellow at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research from 2023 to 2025. Prior to his appointment at Cornell, Zhang was a tenured associate professor in the Department of Economics and the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development at Iowa State University. He obtained his PhD in agricultural, environmental, and development economics from Ohio State University in 2015.
