Biography

Wendy Carlin is a Professor in the Department of Economics at University College London and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research. She is also an external professor at the Santa Fe Institute, where her research focuses on macroeconomics, institutions, economic performance, economic transition, inequality, and political economy. Carlin's work emphasizes the relationship between institutions and macroeconomic modeling, particularly concerning business cycles, financial instability, and growth. In 2024, she co-authored a macroeconomics book titled 'Institutions, Instability, Inequality' with David Soskice. She leads the CORE Econ project, which aims to transform economics education globally, and serves as the co-director of the Stone Centre on Wealth Concentration, Inequality, and Economy at UCL. Wendy Carlin has been recognized with a CBE for her services to economics and public finance and has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, British Academy, Academy of Social Sciences, and the Royal Economic Society. She is also the Vice President of the International Economic Association.
