Biography

Wendy Mao is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Stanford University and a member of the Photon Science Directorate. Her research interests focus on how pressure induces significant changes in materials, studying their behavior under compression to discover novel phases and phenomena. Her work spans a wide range of applications aimed at improving our understanding of the interiors of Earth and other planetary bodies, providing insights into the condensation and evolution of volatiles in planetary systems, as well as guiding the development of new materials for energy-related applications such as hydrogen fuel storage and advanced batteries.
