Dr. Wendy Parulekar

Biography

Wendy Parulekar graduated from the University of Ottawa Medical School, where she also completed her residency training in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology in 1996. Following her residency, she undertook a fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology at the Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre in 1999. Wendy has held a joint clinical and research position at Queen's University, where she is a Senior Investigator with the Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG). In her role, she acts as the Physician Coordinator for national and international studies focused on breast, head and neck, and genitourinary cancers. She is also the Chair of the Education Committee and has significant involvement with national and international scientific advisory committees. A strong advocate for methodological approaches to clinical trial design, she emphasizes the importance of conducting trials from a non-statistician's perspective. Wendy is an active participant in the SPIRIT initiative, which aims to define standard protocol items for randomized trials. In 2011, she was named a Fellow of the Society of Clinical Trials, reflecting her contributions to the field. Her academic interests lie in the art and science of mentoring in academic medicine.
