Biography

Wendy M. Townsend is a Professor of Ophthalmology in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. She is an associate dean focused on academic success and provides ocular examinations and surgeries for a variety of animal species at the Purdue Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Townsend works closely with Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Veterinary Technology students, mentoring them through their academic and clinical experiences. Her expertise includes equine ophthalmology, with a particular interest in cataract surgery, corneal disease, and uveitis, including specific research on golden retriever pigmentary uveitis and ocular drug delivery systems. Dr. Townsend received her DVM from Auburn University in 1995, followed by a residency and MS from Purdue University in 2003, and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists the same year. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Townsend enjoys life on a farm with her husband and daughters, along with their horses, Jersey cows, goats, cats, and a dog.
