Biography

Wendy Wickwire is an Associate Professor Emerita in the School of Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria. She earned her PhD from Wesleyan University in 1983. Wickwire's academic focus includes oral history, Aboriginal history, environmental history, and BC ethnohistory, with a particular interest in the early anthropology of Northwestern North America. She has been instrumental in educating students on issues related to ethnographic methods in environmental research and the historical narratives of Aboriginal peoples in British Columbia. Currently, she is completing a three-year SSHRC grant project titled 'James Teit Challenge Ethnography Boasian Era', which aims to further explore these themes through an ethnographic lens. Her noteworthy contributions also include courses such as ES 428, focusing on ethnographic methods in environmental research, and ES 481, which covers the environmental history of Aboriginal peoples in British Columbia.
