Biography

Wenhong Chen is a Professor of Media Studies and Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin, where he is also a Distinguished Scholar at the Robert Strauss Center for International Security Law. He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Toronto and was a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at Duke University. Professor Chen has more than 100 publications in top-ranked journals across communication, media studies, sociology, and management. His research focus on digital media technologies and their impact in entrepreneurial organizational settings has been supported by notable organizations including the Pew Internet and American Life Project and the Ford Foundation. His current project examines how U.S. and Chinese AI policies affect technology media entrepreneurship. He is also recognized as an award-winning educator, receiving honors such as the Provost’s Teaching Fellow and the President’s Associates Teaching Excellence Award at UT Austin. Chen serves as the Vice Chair of the Global Communication & Social Change Division of the International Communication Association and has held leadership roles in various academic associations.
