Dr. Wenhui Song

Biography

Wenhui Song is a Professor and Head of the UCL Centre for Biomaterials Surgical Reconstruction Regeneration within the Division of Surgery & Interventional Science at University College London. He possesses extensive expertise in polymers, nanomaterials, and nanocomposites in biomedical applications, focusing on interactions with biological cells, tissues, and organs. His current research involves the development of multi-responsive elastomers and hydrogels, advancing biomanufacturing techniques such as electrospinning and 3D printing for applications in tissue engineering and artificial organs. He also innovates in wearable and implantable devices. His pioneering work on liquid crystalline phase polymers and their interactions with biological systems has significantly enhanced the understanding of self-organizing behaviors of nanoparticles and macromolecules. He serves as the principal investigator or co-investigator on numerous large-scale projects funded by prestigious organizations, securing over 50 research grants totaling £10 million. He has authored and co-authored over 80 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals and has received 16 awards for his contributions to the field of materials science and engineering. In addition, he is an active member of various scientific committees and has delivered numerous invited lectures.
