Biography

Wenjia Bai is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Artificial Intelligence in Medicine, jointly appointed in the Department of Computing and the Department of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London. He leads the Biomedical Image Analysis (BioMedIA) Group and the Medical Vision group at the Data Science Institute. He has a strong academic background, with a B.Eng and M.Eng in Automation from Tsinghua University and a D.Phil in Engineering Sciences from the University of Oxford, where he was supervised by Professor Sir Michael Brady. He began his academic career as a Lecturer in 2018, became a Senior Lecturer in 2022, and was promoted to Reader in 2025. Dr. Bai has published over 160 peer-reviewed articles, with approximately 16,000 citations and an H-index of 58. His research is widely recognized in top computing and major medical imaging journals, demonstrating a commitment to open science and reproducible research. His innovative work in deep learning for cardiac image analysis has contributed significantly to the UK's largest imaging study, the UK Biobank. He is an editorial board member for IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging and has received multiple awards for his contributions to the field.
