Biography

Wenjia Bai is an Associate Professor at Imperial College London, jointly appointed in the Department of Computing and the Department of Brain Sciences. He leads the Biomedical Image Analysis (BioMedIA) Group and the Medical Vision group at the Data Science Institute. Dr. Bai completed his B.Eng and M.Eng in Automation at Tsinghua University with Distinction, followed by a D.Phil in Engineering Sciences at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Sir Michael Brady. He started his academic career in a Lectureship position in 2018, became a Senior Lecturer in 2022, and was promoted to Reader in 2025. With over 160 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles to his name, he has garnered over 16,000 citations and has an H-index of 58. His work has been published in top computing conferences including MICCAI, ECCV, ICML, and NeurIPS, as well as leading medical imaging journals such as IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging and Medical Image Analysis. Dr. Bai is committed to open science and reproducible research, exemplified by his development of a deep learning-based cardiac image analysis pipeline that has been deployed to analyze cardiac images from over 80,000 subjects in the UK Biobank. He is actively involved in editorial roles and grant panels, receiving several awards for his contributions to research.
