Wenpin Hou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. His research focuses on developing statistical machine learning methods to address complex challenges at the nexus of statistics and data science. He specializes in areas including single-cell genomics, epigenomics, and spatial transcriptomics, with a particular emphasis on mathematical modeling of gene regulatory networks to elucidate their underlying mechanisms. Dr. Hou is also interested in devising methodologies for analyzing spatio-temporal patterns in single-cell spatial genomics and epigenomics data. He actively applies Generative Pre-trained Transformer models in genomics. His collaborative research spans various fields such as cancer, immunology, infectious diseases, developmental processes, obesity, and maternal child health, including work with the ENCODE4 consortium. In September 2023, Dr. Hou received the Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award (MIRA) from NIH/NIGMS to develop methods for inferring and analyzing gene regulatory networks using single-cell multiomics spatial genomics data. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
