Biography

Wenxin Zhang is an Earth system scientist dedicated to understanding terrestrial ecosystem dynamics and their feedback mechanisms within the climate system across spatial and temporal scales. His expertise primarily lies in utilizing modeling tools to simulate vegetation dynamics, soil biogeochemistry, hydrology, and permafrost interactions, while quantifying biogeophysical and biogeochemical responses related to climate system feedbacks under anthropogenic warming. He employs a variety of models, including the climate-plant-soil continuum model (CoupModel), landscape/plot-scale models, dynamic global vegetation models (LPJ-GUESS), and regional Earth system models (RCA-GUESS/RCAO-GUESS). He has held several researcher and academic positions at Lund University and the University of Copenhagen, focusing on the interplay between vegetation, soil, and climate. His research interests extend to Arctic vegetation feedbacks, permafrost dynamics, agriculture management, and the modeling of carbon and water cycles, showcasing a comprehensive approach to ecosystem responses under climate change.
