Dr. Wenxuan Hou

Biography

Professor Wenxuan Hou holds a personal chair in Corporate Finance at the University of Edinburgh, having joined the institution in 2012. His research encompasses corporate finance and financial development, focusing on historical legacies, institutional structures, and social dynamics that shape modern economic systems. He has investigated how trust, culture, and governance influence financial inclusion and innovation. His interdisciplinary work spans finance, economics, and social sciences, with publications in prestigious journals including the Journal of Financial Economics and the Journal of Corporate Finance. A recognized expert, he has received multiple awards for his teaching and mentorship, including the Award for Excellence in Doctoral Supervision. Wenxuan is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and has served as Co-Chair of the Young Academy of Scotland. He has held editorial roles in key academic journals, showcasing his leadership in the field. His academic journey includes a PhD from Manchester Business School and a background at Durham University. Wenxuan also holds an Honorary Professorship at the University of Cape Town and has significantly contributed to the understanding of how financial systems evolve within institutional and cultural contexts.
