Dr. Wenxuan Zhang

Biography

Wenxuan Zhang is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He received his PhD degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and has worked as a research scientist at Alibaba, where he was honored with the prestigious Ali Star award. His primary research areas include Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs), with a focus on advancing NLP models to be more inclusive and to support diverse languages and cultures through multilingual language models. He is dedicated to improving the understanding, safety, and robustness of these models. Dr. Zhang has co-led multiple influential open-source research projects, including SeaLLMs, which specializes in Southeast Asian languages and has garnered over 300,000 model downloads, as well as M3Exam and AutoArena. He has published more than 40 papers in top-tier AI conferences and journals, with several recognized for being among the top 2% and top 3% most cited in their respective fields. Dr. Zhang regularly serves as an area chair and on program committees for multiple leading conferences and journals.
