Wenyuan (Mike) Wang is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Computer Science from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2015, where he achieved First Class Honours. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Physics at the University of Toronto in 2020, under the supervision of Professor Hoi-Kwong Lo. Following his doctorate, Dr. Wang worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo in the group led by Professor Norbert Lutkenhaus. He held a Research Assistant Professor position at HKU from 2021 to 2024 and will join the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) as an Associate Professor in the summer of 2024. His main research interests include quantum communication, particularly in the design optimization of quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols and quantum networks. He also focuses on the integration of novel computational techniques such as machine learning and semi-definite programming within this domain. Additionally, Dr. Wang is interested in expanding quantum optical platforms for applications in QKD, quantum conferencing, quantum random number generation, linear optical quantum computing, quantum metrology, and quantum machine learning.
