Biography

Wes D Pearce is a professor at the University of Regina, where he teaches courses in theatre design and scenography, Canadian drama, and queer theatre. He holds a BA and BFA with Distinction from the University of Regina and an MFA in Theatre Design from the University of Calgary. His scholarly research encompasses a variety of topics within theatre, culminating in published peer-reviewed articles and conference presentations. Pearce has co-edited collections of essays focusing on queer identities in theatre and has contributed chapters to significant works on Western Canadian theatre. His work has been presented at various prestigious conferences, including World Stage Design and the Canadian Association for Theatre Research. Pearce is also a professional theatre designer, with extensive experience in costume and set design for numerous productions across Western Canada. His notable design credits include collaborations with Globe Theatre in Regina and Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon, among others. He has received multiple nominations for Outstanding Costume Design at both the Saskatoon Area Theatre Awards and the Betty Mitchell Awards in Calgary. Additionally, he has served as Department Head of Theatre and Associate Dean for multiple programs, reflecting his leadership within the academic community. In 2017, he was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Theatre Department.
