Biography

Wesley B. Baker is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He specializes in the field of biomedical optics, focusing on the interaction of optical systems with biological tissues. Baker obtained his PhD in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2015, under the mentorship of Arjun Yodh. Following this, he completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the same institution, working under W. Andrew Kofke. His research interests are centered around studying ischemic pathophysiology through diffuse optics, developing new analytical models for enhancing the precision of cerebral hemodynamic data derived from optical signals, and creating innovative clinical applications for non-invasive monitoring of cerebral perfusion pressure. Baker aims to improve the prognostic capabilities of optical tools in treating acute brain injuries and seeks to illuminate the causes of neurological disorders through the integration of optical measurements from human patients and pre-clinical animal models. His work is pivotal in establishing novel therapies for conditions such as ischemic stroke and hydrocephalus.
