Dr. Widu Wolfgang Ehlers

Biography

Widu-Wolfgang Ehlers is a professor at the Institute of Greek and Latin Philology at the Free University of Berlin. He studied Latin Philology, Greek Philology, and Philosophy in Hamburg and Zurich between 1961 and 1967, earning his doctorate at Hamburg in 1967 with a dissertation on the manuscript tradition of Valerius Flaccus' Argonautica. He habilitated in Hamburg in 1979 with a critical edition of the same work. Since becoming a professor in 1981, he has served in various administrative roles, including the dean of several departments and as a member of academia committees. His research interests and works primarily revolve around Latin literature, particularly focusing on Roman satire and neoclassical Latin literature. He has published significant critical editions and articles in esteemed journals and has been involved in multiple international conferences on classical studies.
