Biography

Wilco Burghout is an Associate Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, specializing in Transport Planning. He obtained his PhD in Transport Planning in 2005, focusing on modeling and analyzing traffic processes, including large-scale data mining, autonomous public transport, and system-wide traffic state estimation. He directed the Centre for Traffic Research at KTH and was attached to VEDECOM from September 2016 to June 2020, where he led a working group on modeling network effects of autonomous vehicles. He co-developed several simulation platforms, including MEZZO, which simulates individual vehicle movements and aggregated behavior in traffic. He has also co-developed BusMezzo, a model for dynamic public transport operations. Dr. Burghout actively co-supervises PhD students from both Sweden and France, guiding them on various topics related to transport systems and traffic management. His teaching includes courses on traffic simulation and public transport.
