Biography

Wilfred L.F. Armarego is a prominent biochemist and organic chemist, educated at the University of London where he earned a B.Sc. in Special Chemistry (Honors) in 1953, followed by a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 1956. His doctoral research focused on the stereochemistry of biphenyls. He then obtained a D.Sc. in Heterocyclic Chemistry in 1968 from the University of London. Dr. Armarego's extensive career includes various appointments at the Australian National University (ANU), where he has served as a Visiting Fellow since 1997, contributing to the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) and holding multiple positions from Research Fellow to Senior Fellow. His research interests are primarily in enzyme kinetics and the organic synthesis of heterocyclic compounds related to medical biochemistry. Dr. Armarego has been actively involved in scholarly societies, editorial boards, and has received numerous awards recognizing his contributions to science and education, including the Member of the Order of Australia in 2019 for his significant service in biochemistry and molecular biology.
