Biography

Wilfred Tang is a Senior Lecturer in the Doctor of Optometry program at the University of Western Australia, having joined in early 2020. He is actively involved in the design, planning, and implementation of the teaching program, particularly focusing on providing final year optometry students with hands-on experiences in delivering eye health services to Aboriginal communities in South-West WA. Wilfred has a strong clinical background with over 13 years of experience in managing complex eye diseases and surgeries in a public eye clinic at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Before his tenure at UWA, he led the optometry program in Singapore. An alumnus of the University of Melbourne, he completed his undergraduate studies there in 1991 and obtained a PhD from Queensland University of Technology in 2001. In addition, he holds a Master of Public Health from UWA and a postgraduate qualification in ocular therapeutics from the University of New South Wales. Wilfred is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has been appointed as a Sessional Member of the State Administrative Tribunal in Western Australia in 2024.
