Dr. Wilfrid Greaves

Biography

Wilfrid Greaves is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Victoria. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto (2016), an MA from the University of Calgary (2009), and a BA (Honours) from Bishop's University (2006). His research interests encompass global security, climate change, energy, Indigenous peoples, Canadian foreign policy, and circumpolar Arctic affairs. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has co-edited two books focused on Arctic governance. Greaves has been involved with multiple federally-funded research networks including the North American Arctic Defence Security Network (NAADSN) and the Canadian Defence Security Network. His academic contributions have received support from the Department of National Defence, Global Affairs Canada, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. He previously served as a Lecturer at the Trudeau Centre for Peace, Conflict and Justice at the University of Toronto and was a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Sami Studies at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Greaves teaches courses related to international relations and supervises graduate students in the fields of Arctic environmental politics and global security.
