Dr. Wilhelm Hofstetter

Biography

Wilhelm Hofstetter is a professor emeritus at the University of Bern with extensive experience in bone biology and orthopaedic research. He completed his Master’s degree in Biochemistry at ETH Zurich and his Ph.D. at the Children’s Hospital of the University of Bern. Throughout his career, he has led the independent Core Group at the Department of Clinical Research, focusing on bone metabolism and inflammatory diseases affecting the skeleton. His research incorporates a variety of technologies, including cell culture models to explore the development and activation of bone cells and applied animal models for clinical studies. Hofstetter has collaborated with various clinical institutions, including Inselspital Bern and extramural organizations, and maintains an active role in academic teaching and coordination within the Department of Clinical Research. He offers courses in the Biomedical Engineering Master's program, specifically in Osteology.
