Biography

Wilhelm Neusser is a German-American painter known for working with contemporary concepts of landscape and drawing rooted in the tradition of Western painting, especially 19th-century romanticism. Born in Cologne, Germany, he studied at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe under Professors Gerd van Dülmen and Harald Klingelhöller. Neusser also attended the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe as a guest student focusing on art history theory under Professors Hans Belting and Siegfried Gohr. After relocating to the United States in 2011, he has continued to live and work in Somerville, Massachusetts. His works are represented by the Abigail Ogilvy Gallery and have been widely exhibited, leading to numerous awards and fellowships, including being a finalist for the Painting grant from the Mass Cultural Council in 2020-2022. His recent exhibitions include those at the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, Massachusetts, and MASS MoCA in North Adams. Neusser's work has been featured in notable publications such as the Boston Globe and Boston Magazine.
