Biography

Wilhelm Wimmer's field research area is Experimental Audiology, where he is engaged in improving diagnostic treatment technology for inner ear disorders, specifically focusing on hearing loss, tinnitus, and vertigo. His work is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach that combines aspects of audiology, otology, radiology, and medical imaging. He has a particular focus on cochlear implant research, conducted in close collaboration with clinicians. Prof. Wimmer studied Biomedical Engineering at Graz University of Technology and completed his PhD at the University of Bern in 2015, followed by a postdoctoral stay at INRIA/Sophia Antipolis. He obtained his habilitation in Experimental Audiology at the University of Bern in 2021 and was appointed to the professorship of Experimental Audiology at the Technical University of Munich in 2023. His notable awards include the Hans Joachim Denecke Award, the KUKA Paper Award (with co-authors) in 2017, and the Hamlyn Medical Robotics Award for Oral Presentation (with co-authors) in 2013.
