Biography

Will Baker is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton, specializing in Modern Languages and Linguistics. He has been a faculty member since 2009 and currently serves as the Director of the Centre for Global Englishes. Baker's research primarily focuses on Global Englishes and English lingua franca, alongside intercultural and transcultural communication. He is involved in supervising doctoral students and has co-edited series on English Linguistics. His extensive academic contributions include over 50 publications, comprising books, articles, and chapters, presented internationally. Before his tenure at Southampton, Baker completed his PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University and taught at Silpakorn University in Thailand for five years. He has worked as an English language teacher for a decade, catering to various educational levels in both the UK and Thailand, while specializing in English for Academic Purposes. Baker actively engages in research groups and has been involved with various academic journals as a member of editorial boards, as well as serving as a keynote speaker at significant international conferences. His commitment to education is reflected in his ongoing research projects and his active role in the academic community.
