Biography

Will Kwan is a Hong Kong-born, Tkaronto-based artist educator whose artistic practice examines diverse ways in which hegemony produces economic systems and cultural narratives. Kwan received his M.F.A. from Columbia University (2004-2006) and has been a full-time faculty member at the University of Toronto since 2007. He teaches interdisciplinary art practice and time-based media at the University of Toronto Scarborough and is also a faculty member in the Master of Visual Studies Program at the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design on the St. George campus. Kwan's artwork is included in permanent collections at M+, Art Museum at the University of Toronto, and Art Gallery Ontario. He has exhibited at various triennials and biennials, including venues such as MoMA PS1 and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Kwan has held residencies at numerous prestigious institutions, such as the Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto and the Duolun Museum of Modern Art. His research interests focus on globalization in contemporary art, critical art practices, and visual culture related to war and multiculturalism.
