Biography

Will May is a professor of English at the University of Southampton, where he has been a faculty member since 2008. He completed his doctoral thesis at Balliol College, Oxford, and has previously lectured at Bath Spa University and St Anne's College, Oxford. His work is primarily focused on modern and contemporary literature, particularly British poetry and the role of mentoring within creative practices. He has held various academic positions, including Research Fellow in the Humanities and Senior Lecturer in English. May has a strong commitment to promoting literary communities through his research and public speaking engagements. He was an AHRC Leadership Fellow for the Invisible Mentors project, which investigated mentoring in the creative industries, and has been involved in numerous initiatives to enhance the role of literature in regional recovery efforts. His notable publications include the edited book on the poet F.T. Prince and a well-received work on Stevie Smith, which won the CCUE Book Prize in 2011. May actively supervises doctoral students and contributes to MA programs focused on global literary industries.
