Dr. Willem Janssen

Biography

Willem Janssen is an Associate Professor of Public Procurement Law at Utrecht University, specializing in Sustainable Procurement. He holds an endowed chair from the Dutch Association for Public Procurement Law and has contributed significantly to the field through his research at both Utrecht University's Centre for Public Procurement (UUCePP) and the Centre for Regulation Enforcement Europe (RENFORCE). His research interests include questions regarding sustainable and responsible outsourcing within the legal framework of public procurement. Janssen has explored the impacts of EU public procurement laws at the national level and advocated for integrating sustainability values into these laws. He leads ongoing research projects such as CIRCLASH, focusing on circular public procurement law, and collaborates across various institutions, contributing to public discourse on the intersection of procurement, sustainability, and social responsibility. His published work appears in leading academic journals and he is active in the academic community as a lecturer, coordinator of master courses, and founding member of various research initiatives.
