Biography

William Baude is the Harry Kalven, Jr. Professor of Law at the University of Chicago Law School, where he has served since 2014. He is also the Faculty Director of the Constitutional Law Institute. Baude's teaching encompasses a wide range of subjects including federal courts, constitutional law, election law, and conflict laws. His current research interests center on judicial remedies available to the federal government and the Supreme Court’s emergency docket, alongside the legacy of William Winslow Crosskey. Before joining the faculty at Chicago, Baude clerked for Chief Justice John Roberts of the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Michael McConnell of the Tenth Circuit. He has also held positions at Stanford Law School and other institutions, further contributing to his profile as an esteemed legal academic.
