Biography

William D. Bishop is an Associate Professor in the Teaching Stream in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He teaches undergraduate courses in engineering design, digital design, and embedded systems. His research interests encompass engineering education, configurable computing, parallel distributed systems, hardware/software co-design, embedded systems, and multimedia processing. Dr. Bishop served as the Director of Admissions for the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo from September 2018 to August 2025, leading the Engineering Admissions Team within the Engineering Undergraduate Office. He has received multiple accolades for his exceptional contributions to teaching and research, including the Faculty of Engineering's Unsung Hero Award in 2024 and the James Field Teaching Excellence Award twice. His professional affiliations include the Professional Engineers Ontario, Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, Canadian Engineering Education Association, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Dr. Bishop has also engaged in various volunteer activities and has a background in software development with experienced employment at Atlantis Aerospace and Motorola Corporation.
