William J. Bommer, M.D. is a Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine at UC Davis Health. His clinical research interests include sonography, particularly thoracic, trans-esophageal, intra-luminal, and intra-vascular echocardiography. He is involved in research projects focusing on computer simulation blood-flow models, color-flow imaging, finite difference analysis, and the development of new echo-contrast agents and cardiovascular medicines. Dr. Bommer is the Director of the UCDavis High Risk Prevention Program and the California Elective PCI Program, also serving as the Statewide Chairman of the UC Berkeley Right Care Initiative. His clinical efforts are primarily aimed at the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Dr. Bommer completed his B.A. at Cornell University in 1968 and earned his M.D. from the State University of New York School of Medicine in 1972. He underwent his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the same institution, followed by a cardiovascular fellowship at the Joint Clinical Cardiovascular Training Program at the Martinez VA Hospital and UC Davis School of Medicine from 1975 to 1977. Dr. Bommer has been recognized as an Outstanding Clinical Physician by Sacramento Magazine multiple times from 2011 to 2017 and has been honored as a Top Cardiologist by the International Association of Cardiologists in 2013.
