Biography

William Hamilton Byrne is an Assistant Professor at the University of Copenhagen, affiliated with the MOBILE Centre of Excellence in Global Mobility Law. His research adopts an international legal theoretical approach, exploring foundational issues that structure international law and legal normative change. Byrne's work spans various legal domains, including general public international law, international migration law, international human rights law, international economic law, and international law technology. His current research focuses on employing mobilities theory to improve the understanding of international law, utilizing empirical techniques to analyze processes of legal normative change. He completed his LLM in Public International Law at the University of Amsterdam and obtained his PhD at iCourts, Centre of Excellence at the University of Copenhagen. Byrne has published extensively in leading international law journals and co-edited special issues for the Nordic Journal of International Law and the German Law Journal. He also coordinates and teaches courses on Legal Reasoning and Argumentation as well as International Migration Law, and organizes interdisciplinary PhD courses in collaboration with institutions such as the Geneva Graduate Institute.
