Biography

William K. Chan, PharmD, PhD, graduated from the University of California, San Francisco, with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1986 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1991. He completed post-doctoral training in Environmental Toxicology at the University of California, Davis in 1992, followed by a fellowship in Molecular Pharmacology at Northwestern University Medical School until 1996. Dr. Chan joined the faculty at the University of the Pacific as a Professor, where he has been conducting research on the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), a significant signaling molecule involved in the human response to various environmental contaminants. His lab investigates the mechanisms that control AHR protein levels in human cells, crucial for understanding drug design. Dr. Chan has received numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health to support his research, and he is committed to fostering collaboration among faculty members to advance scientific knowledge and community health. He appreciates the supportive and beautiful environment of the University of the Pacific and is passionate about teaching in a student-centered setting.
