Dr. William Darity

Biography

William Darity Jr. is the Samuel DuBois Cook Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Public Policy, African and African American Studies, and Economics at Duke University. He previously served as the chair of the Department of African and African American Studies and was the founding director of the Research Network on Racial and Ethnic Inequality at Duke. Darity's work centers on issues of inequality regarding race, class, and ethnicity, including the economics of reparations and the effects of the historical Atlantic slave trade on contemporary economic disparities. Throughout his career, he has held notable positions as a visiting scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation and a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford. He has received numerous awards including the Samuel Z. Westerfield Award, the National Economic Association's highest honor, and recognition from Politico's 50 for his impact in public policy. He has published extensively, including more than 300 articles and 13 books, making significant contributions to academic discourse on economic inequality and social policy.
