Dr. William Fletcher

Biography

William Fletcher is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Calgary and has a focus on Neurology and Neuro-Ophthalmology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1975, followed by residency training in neurology at the University of Calgary from 1978 to 1983. He is certified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is also a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Fletcher has contributed significantly to the field through various fellowships and roles, notably as a Clinical Investigator for the Alberta Heritage Foundation Medical Research and as the Director of the Neurology Residency Program at the University of Calgary from 1996 to 2009. His clinical practice involves diagnosing and treating patients in the Neuro-Ophthalmology Clinic at Rockyview Eye Clinic, where he addresses vision problems caused by brain and nerve disorders. He also co-directs the Neurovestibular Program at South Health Campus, focusing on patients with vertigo. His research interests include idiopathic intracranial hypertension and the efficacy of low-dose prednisone in ocular myasthenia gravis, alongside collaborative studies on novel diagnostic devices. Fletcher has received multiple awards recognizing his contributions, including the Resident Well-Being Award and the Certificate of Merit from the Canadian Association of Medical Education.
