Biography

William Flynn is affiliated with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University. He has a long-standing interest in creating engaging and fun learning tools for students. His research broadly focuses on issues related to the translation, organization, and representation of academic knowledge in user-friendly formats that are publicly accessible. He was involved in adapting the graphic novel 'Gringo Love', published in 2020 by University of Toronto Press, alongside Professor Marie-Eve Carrier-Moisan and Brazilian illustrator Deborah Santos. In January 2020, he launched 'The Department Podcast', which is designed to share stories from the department and make the academic world more accessible. Flynn has taught various sociology courses, such as Introduction to Sociology and Theory classes, since joining Carleton in 2016. His teaching experience extends to institutions like the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, where he focused on both classical and contemporary social theory.
