William Frank joined the Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS) faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2020. He earned his bachelor's degree in Earth systems science from the University of Michigan in 2009, followed by a master's (2011) and doctoral degree (2014) in geophysics from the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris. After completing his postdoctoral studies there, he joined the National Science Foundation as a postdoctoral fellow in the research group of German Prieto in 2015. In 2018, Frank was appointed as an assistant professor in Earth Sciences at the University of Southern California before ultimately returning to MIT. His research focuses on geophysical observations, seismic ground motion, and remote sensing geodesy to produce novel insights into natural hazards and the impacts on the solid Earth. He investigates tectonic processes and their manifestations, such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and fault dynamics, aiming to enhance the understanding of these phenomena and their implications for Earth sciences.
